since my mum taught me how to knit, crochet and embroider, I have loved
making things. I have moved on quite a bit since I was a little girl and I
now enjoy working with different media. I would therefore classify myself
as a multi-crafter. I am self-taught except for the things my mum taught
me when I was young. I have a background in science/engineering and
was working in a highly stressful job with long hours that started to take a
toll on family life. In the middle of 2019, I took a leap of faith and left my
job to concentrate on my health and family. I have been crafting ever
since and would love to continue to do this. I started out with making
personalised greeting cards, from the simple to the more elaborate fancy
folds. This paper craft quickly led me to the art of quilling and origami.
Quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of
paper that are rolled, shaped and glued together to create decorative
designs. Origami is the Japanese art of folding paper into decorative
shapes and figures. It was my love of quilling that led me to my business
name : Quillorama.
In the last few months I have moved on to knotting and braiding
techniques such as macramé and kumihimo. I take a great interest in our
environment and I love creating more sustainable and/or eco-friendly items
using the above techniques.
